Frequently Asked Questions:

Is cosmetic surgery safe?

Yes. For the majority of individuals cosmetic surgery can be performed safely with a trained surgeon in a Certified Surgical Facility. Patients with severe preexisting heart, lung, or kidney problems should consult with their private physician first.

What if I am not ready for a surgical procedure?

We suggest a skin-care program that is tailored to your needs. For example, wrinkle treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic and other facial rejuvenation procedures like laser resurfacing and microdermabrasion can help improve the texture of your skin and correct any sun damage, acne scars, etc.

How will you minimize scarring or keloid formation after surgery?

Our cosmetic surgeons place their incisions within natural folds and lines of the skin (Langer’s Lines) so that the majority of scars are well concealed. We also work closely with a dermatologist who may recommend additional topical treatment to minimize scarring.

Am I at greater risk for breast cancer after breast augmentation?

Most studies indicate that there is no additional risk. However, it is strongly recommended that patients obtain a mammogram prior to any breast procedure if there is a family history of breast cancer, an abnormal examination, or if the patient is over the age of 35.

How long do the results of cosmetic surgery last?

Individual results will vary; results may diminish if there is an extreme weight loss or weight gain. Facelifts and eyelid surgery, on average, maintain their results for 10 to15 years. Breast implants generally do not require replacement for 15 to 20 years unless there is significant scar formation or an infection. Liposuction results can be permanent because fat cells do not regenerate after removal. However, adjacent fat cells can enlarge if the individual has rapid weight gain.

How long should I take off from work following plastic surgery?

The majority of our patients undergoing breast augmentation or liposuction return to work within 3 to 7 days following surgery. For facelift and eyelid surgery we typically recommend waiting 5 to 14 days. Your recovery schedule will depend on whether you have a desk job or a job requiring physical activity.

I have an olive to darker complexion. Am I at a greater risk for permanent pigmentary problems?

No. However, you should be very cautious proceeding with certain laser resurfacing procedures that may lead to transient lightening (hypopigmentation) or darkening (hyperpigmentation) of the skin. Our experience has shown that many patients with darker skin can achieve excellent results through a combination of glycolic acid peels.
